SPRINGFIELD – Wittenberg's annual Faculty and Seniors Dance Concert, a capstone project for seniors with a minor in dance, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, in Chakeres Memorial Theatre, 905 Woodlawn Ave. The concert is free, and tickets will be available one hour before each performance on a first-come, first-serve basis. The concert will include approximately 25 dancers performing a variety of dance styles that incorporate modern, jazz and hip hop. All pieces were choreographed by students as part of their minor/major requirement. Senior dance major Greta Hysjulien, from White Bear Lake, Minn., will present her senior capstone choreography, and this year's senior dance minors are Blaire Butler from Cincinnati, Ohio; Jordan Davis from Maineville, Ohio; Kelliea Johnson from Canton, Ohio; David Kabbes from Springfield, Ohio; Rachel Lind from Gahanna, Ohio; and Jennifer Petro from Louisville, Ky. Associate Professor of Theatre and Dance Ligia Pinheiro will perform with pianist Juan Francisco La Manna, a guest artist from the State University of New York at Oswego. Pinheiro’s performance is the result of her movement research on the early 20th century modern dancer Isadora Duncan and is supported by a Faculty Research Fund Board Grant. The concerts benefit Springfield’s Project Woman, which provides support, shelter and resources for victims of domestic abuse. Donations of non-perishable food and personal care items, as well as cash and gift cards, will be accepted at the door. |

SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Youth Symphony, Springfield Youth Chamber Orchestra, and Springfield Youth String Ensemble, all educational components of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra (SSO), will hold auditions for the 2009-2010 season on Saturday, May 16, 2009. The auditions will be held at The Clark State Performing Arts Center, Springfield, OH. All three youth orchestras provide large and small ensemble performance opportunities through concerts and outreach activities, sectional instruction from SSO members, and side-by-side performance opportunities with the SSO. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from September to April in the professional environment of the Kuss Auditorium and Turner Studio Theater at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. The Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestras program currently has over 105 participants from 40 area schools and homeschools in 8 different counties. The groups provide orchestral ensemble experience that students might not otherwise receive in their school music programs. Home educated students are encouraged to audition. All orchestral instruments, especially low strings, are welcome to audition. For more information, or to obtain an application, please contact Robyn Zimmann at the SSO office at 937-325-8100 or by e-mail at
